About Me
Hi, I’m Melanie Sheaves—The Death Whisperer. I’m a Registered Nurse (RN, BSN), Certified Hospice and Palliative Nurse (CHPN) and end-of-life doula. I offer heart-centered support for individuals and families navigating the sacred transition at the end of life — blending clinical expertise with soul-deep presence.
My sole mission is to demystify death and help prepare and guide you as you cultivate the death of your dreams through education, empowerment, and inspiration.
Whether you’re preparing for your own transition or supporting someone you love, you deserve care that honors the whole person, not just the medical moment.
I am devoted to walking alongside individuals and families through the profound experience of dying. My work is rooted in both professional training and deeply personal experience.
Several years ago, I lost my father after a sudden and brief battle with stomach cancer. His death changed everything.
Sitting at his bedside, I saw just how much compassion, clarity, and presence matter in those final moments. That experience became the catalyst for my work in hospice and as an end-of-life doula — supporting others through the mystery, beauty, and challenge of dying.
Over the years, I have witnessed both peaceful passings and deeply distressing ones. What I’ve come to know is this: the greatest barrier to a “good death” is not medical — it’s a lack of preparation. Too often, people suffer unnecessarily because they haven’t been given the space, tools, or guidance to talk openly about death, to plan for it, or to understand what’s ahead. Education, engagement, and honest conversation can transform how we die — and how we live in the time leading up to it.
My approach is shaped not only by my clinical background, but also by the practices and rhythms that have grounded me for years. Yoga and meditation have taught me how to hold stillness, breathe through intensity, and stay present in moments that feel unmanageable. My lifelong connection with horses — years spent as an equestrian — has deepened my ability to tune in to nonverbal communication, to build trust through quiet presence, and to move with grace in uncertain terrain.
These threads all weave into the way I show up for the dying and their loved ones. Whether I’m managing symptoms, guiding family through vigil planning, or offering education and support, I bring a steady, heart-centered presence grounded both in skill and soul.
Through educational courses, workshops, and advising, I offer not just services — but companionship. You don’t have to walk this path alone. I’m here to support you and your family with honesty, tenderness, and care.
